| NEC Facial Recognition |
Leaders
in the facial recognition arena, NEC sell a system that can learn a persons face
and relate the face to a stored set of data. The face is broken
down into specific points or 'markers' and the size and shape of
the polygons created by these markers is recorded as "your
face."
The system is in use by the NZ Customs and Immigration service
and is so sensitive that it can detect not only the age of a person
but also their race. This has huge implications for the
Narrowcasting and Direct Marketing industries. Imagine walking
through a mall, the screens in the store windows change as you
approach with offers of product suited to your age and race. Big
brother has gotten bored of watching you, now he's hocking
t-shirts.
